Get Public Speaking Confidence With Self-Hypnosis
Every second person you meet will probably tell you that they have a public speaking fear. As a fear, it has been described as second only to the fear of death. Yet there is a solution and it’s easier than you might think! Using the powerful tool of hypnosis, it is possible to access your unconscious mind and change any negative experience so that it no longer triggers severe fears of public speaking. The great news is that you can get the public speaking confidence with self-hypnosis that you want
Self-hypnosis allows you to use a hypnotic recording in the comfort and privacy of your own home. Most hypnosis audios for public speaking fear are approximately 25 minutes in length. What if I told you that by listening once per day at a time that suits you, you could become a confident public speaker? Interested? Good, let’s get into it!
Do You Suffer From Fear Of Public Speaking?
I’m guessing that if you’re reading this article, the answer is a no-brainer. Here are some of the typical signs and symptoms of a public speaking fear:
- Rapid Breathing: You may or may not notice your breathing has become a bit shallower and a bit faster. The reason people sometimes don’t notice this is because they are too overwhelmed by the feeling of fear to pay attention to what’s going on. Breathing in this way increases anxiety because you are getting less oxygen into your lungs.
- Heart Beating Rapidly: Some people describe this as their heart “thumping” in their chest. This is quite an uncomfortable and worrying sensation. Previous clients of mine have said they thought they were about to have a heart attack. In some cases, people with this fear have actually experienced full-blown panic attacks in the lead-up to speaking in front of a crowd.
- Shaking Or Trembling: Another of the common symptoms of public speaking anxiety is starting to tremble or shake.
- Feeling Sick: It is quite common for people to describe this as their stomach turning somersaults either in the build-up to public speaking or during the speech itself.
- Sweating: Another normal symptom is breaking out in a cold sweat. This even happens to some people at the very thought of having to give a big presentation or speech.
- Throat Tightening: Finding it difficult to speak because it seems like your throat is closing up. This usually causes your voice to either croak or waver.
What Does Your Subconscious Mind Have To Do With It?
If you look over some of those symptoms of public speaking fear that I have outlined above, you don’t consciously make those happen.v What I mean is that it feels like those are happening on autopilot and you have no control over it. This is because all of these symptoms are under the control of your subconscious mind. This is the part of your mind that is in charge of all of those automatic things that happen in your body and mind.
The subconscious is responsible for making your heartbeat. It regulates your sleep cycle. Your breathing all day long is controlled by your subconscious. This is a good thing! Imagine having to make a decision every time you wanted to breathe in or out. You’d be exhausted after just one day of doing that. The problem occurs when your subconscious mind sees public speaking as a potential threat or danger. It triggers the exact same reaction as if you were about to be eaten and killed by a hungry tiger. This is a mistake but the subconscious mind doesn’t get that, so it’ll keep giving those responses.
What Negative Beliefs Do You Have About Being In Front Of An Audience?
- “I’ve never done this before”
- “What if I make a fool of myself?”
- “What if they all laugh at me because I’m so bad at public speaking?”
- “What if they won’t listen to me?”
- “What if someone heckles me?”
- “What if someone asks me a question I don’t know the answer to?”
- “Other people I know are so much better than me at public speaking. I’m awful at it.”
These are just some of the negative beliefs I’ve heard from some of my clients in my hypnosis clinic who have come to see me to overcome their fear of public speaking. Remember a belief is something you choose to believe in. You can always make a different choice any day you choose.

Did You Have A Bad Experience?
Many people have bad experiences with public speaking during their school years. Childhood and teenage years are a time when you are especially self-conscious. You want to fit in. You really don’t want to be mocked or laughed at. Yet that is an experience that quite a few kids have to endure. I had an experience somewhat like this when I attended school.
I was roughly 14 years old and quite shy. The teacher in my English language class asked me to get to my feet and read a chapter from one of the novels on our course. I remember not wanting to do it. There were some smart-arses in the class and I just knew they couldn’t wait to mock something about my performance. So I got extra nervous and had a problem saying words that began with the letter “s”. The “s” sound went on a little too long and my heart sank as I heard all of the cruel comments.
Even though the teacher told them to shut up, it was too late. I internalized this belief that I was rubbish at speaking in front of a crowd. This belief stayed with me through my college years. It wasn’t until my early thirties that I eventually threw out that belief with the help of a self-hypnosis recording. I shared this story with you because I don’t know what bad experience you had, but whatever it was, you can overcome it!
How About If There Were No Bad Experiences?
I’ve also come across a smaller cohort of people who didn’t experience anything bad like I’ve described above. For these people, sometimes it can stem from social anxiety disorder, or from control issues. The great news is that even if there was no identifiable bad experience that set your fear of public speaking in motion, you can still overcome it.

How Can A Hypnotherapy Session Help?
The potential benefits of a hypnotherapy session for fear of public speaking is huge. I am qualified as a hypnotherapist, CBT practitioner, EFT practitioner, Mindfulness Practitioner, and Life Coach, yet when it comes to a fear or phobia, in my opinion, there is only one certain way to solve the problem. Hypnotherapy! During a typical hypnotherapy session when you go to an actual hypnotherapist, you’ll be asked to close your eyes. Then, the hypnotist will guide you through what’s called progressive muscle relaxation.
Over a period of (usually) five to ten minutes, you’ll enter a trance-like state of deep relaxation. This allows your mind to relax and to be able to accept suggestions that you simply couldn’t accept while fully aware and awake. A trained hypnotherapist will use the power of suggestion to reframe negative beliefs about yourself or about the public speaking situation. That therapist will help you melt away fear of failure and transform it into a desire for enjoyment so that you’ll actually have fun speaking in public and give a very successful presentation or speech.
Imagine Having Powerful Inner Confidence
In order to successfully do anything, we have to first imagine being able to do it. Every airline pilot first had to imagine being able to fly a plane before they even started training. Every teacher had to imagine confidently standing in front of a class delivering a lesson. Even a delivery truck driver had to imagine being a truck driver before they first got into a truck to learn how to drive it.
It’s the same with confidence in any situation. We have to play the right movie in our minds. We have to see ourselves speaking in front of a crowd and doing brilliantly. The problem for most people is that they don’t run the movie of success in their minds in advance of public speaking. They actually run a disaster movie, where everything that could possibly go wrong does go wrong. If you run a movie of disaster, you can’t really complain when your inner mind gives you all the anxious sensations and emotions that go with that movie.
This is where self-hypnosis can really help. On my self-hypnosis audio, “Overcome Fear Of Public Speaking“, you’ll be guided through a very vivid visualization of being in complete, confident control of the room. You’ll imagine seeing the audience really enjoying what you have to say. There will be powerful hypnotic suggestions that you feel that you are a confident speaker and that it feels great!
