Where Should I Listen To My Self-Hypnosis Recording?
Here’s where you SHOULDN’T listen to a hypnosis audio
- In a car, either as a driver, or as a passenger
- On a bus or a train (you may be so relaxed that you miss your stop)
- If you are in a workplace operating heavy machinery or equipment
- While minding a child
- Or in any place where it might be even slightly dangerous to close your eyes
Places that are very suitable to listening to self hypnosis audios are
- sitting on a comfortable chair that is high enough to support your head
- lying on your bed in a comfortable position
I always suggest to any of my clients who have young children to lock the door of their bedroom while listening. Of course, this is only when the children are being looked after by another responsible adult. The last thing you want is an excited child running in and jumping on you while you are in a hypnotic state. You’ll get a huge shock and probably end up screaming!
How To Listen To Hypnosis Audio
I often get asked what audio equipment is the best for listening to self-hypnosis downloads. Actually, that’s not complicated at all. You’ll probably be downloading the audio hypnosis sessions to your mobile phone and listening to it from there. The only extra piece of equipment you need is either headphones or earbuds. My preference is for earbuds because they tend to create a more immersive experience..
The distinct advantages to a real life hypnotherapist. of using self-hypnosis recording are many but the main one is that you don’t even have to leave home. I recommend to my clients that they put a reminder in their phone for a set time every day to listen to their recording. There are lots of hypnosis downloads available on this website to suit your specific needs. These range from personal development audios to weight loss recordings, to mp3’s designed to help you overcome fears and phobias.
Before starting to listen to any self-hypnosis audio program, it is important to check to make sure if you are a suitable candidate for hypnosis. If you are not sure, or if you are wondering if a certain mental health condition would make it unadviseable to listen to a self hypnosis recording, check out my blog post entitled “Is Self Hypnosis Suitable For Everyone?“

The answer is simple – whatever time suits you best where you the the best results. Many people listen just before going to sleep at night. Their reasoning is that it puts them in a state of deep relaxation just before going to sleep which leads, in their case, to a desired state of relaxation.
Others have found that, because there is a wakening suggestion at the end of most recordings, that this interfere’s with their ability to go off to sleep. In this case, I would always recommend try out different times and find the one that suits you best. Remember, hypnotic suggestions work best when you are in a deeply relaxed state. If you are wondering will you be able to get to sleep later, you are not in a fully relaxed state.

Self-hypnosis audios have a proven track record of helping people achieve positive change in their lives. When you program your subconscious mind effectively, using hypnosis, it will give you reliable results.
Most hypnotherapists agree that, in order to achieve the best possible result, you should listen once per day for at least thirty days until your new beliefs have become automatic habit. By the way, even if you are going for in-person hypnotherapy, you will probably be asked by your hypnotherapist to listen to a hypnosis recording that they will make for you. So, listening to self hypnosis audios is not that different from going to a real-life hypnotherapist. Indeed many clients of mine have continued listening to my recordings for long after the thirty days have expired, just simply because they love the relaxed state they feel while in hypnosis.

How To Successfully Use Hypnosis Audio Downloads
It may take a couple of times listening to your recording before you get the hang of it. This is perfectly fine. Just be patient and you’ll get better at it each day. Each recording begins with what’s called an “induction”. In other words, you’ll my my voice sounds quite calm and I will be using certain relaxation techniques that will help you to de-stress and let go. I urge people to keep an open mind as much as possible. Don’t tell yourself “I can’t do this”, or any variation of that. It’s like riding a bike for the first time. You won’t get it perfectly right at the start and that’s ok.
A little further into the recording, there will be a sprinkling of positive suggestions and indirect suggestions which will help you to gain complete control over whatever issue you have. By this stage, your attention should have wandered. You may hear some of what I am saying but at times, you should find yourself drifting away so that you couldn’t say what you had heard. If this is pretty close to how you would describe your experience, then you are doing fine.
What Happens If I Can't Visualize?
Dont’ worry. Everyone learns slightly differently. When I imagine things, I can see the pictures in my head but if you ask me to hear the sounds or feel the feelings, I’m not sure how well I can do that. You might be able to hear the sounds or feel the feelings but not see the pictures. We’re both imagining, but just in different ways. For self hypnosis to be a success, you’ve just got to imagine the change you want to experience and imagine it so vivdly that it seems as if you have it right now.
I think most of us did that when we were young. When I was just six years old, I remember my Dad taking me out onto the open-air viewing balcony at our local airport. I could smell the aviation fuel. I could see the plane moving as it taxied towards the runway getting ready to take off. And of course, I could hear the roar of the engines during take-off. I also felt a feeling of excitement at that time. What did you imagine when you wee a kid? If you could do it then, you can do it now. Just stop getting in your own way by telling yourself that you can’t. Be patient, do it your way and keep an eye out for those positive changes.
